ALM Information for traveling visitors
The Department of ALM is situated in central Uppsala at the English Park Campus behind the main building of Uppsala University Library, Carolina Rediviva. The visiting address is Thunbergsvägen 3C. The entrance is on the opposite side of the park behind the university library in the modern building (building number 22) called "Humanistiska teatern" between two older ones.
How to find us
To find the Department of ALM you have to walk strait through the new Building 22 to a corridor in Building 4, take the stairs at the left hand side to the second floor. Use the entrance to the right of the staircase to enter the department premises (in building number 4 on the campus map.

Travel to Uppsala
From Stockholm-Arlanda to Uppsala
Arlanda Airport, http://www.arlanda.se/en/, which is the main airport in the Stockholm area, is situated between Stockholm and Uppsala. Generally train is the best means of communication to Uppsala from Arlanda. But if you are more than three passengers, a taxi is cheaper and of course has the advantage of leaving you directly at your final destination.
There are SL commuter trains to Uppsala every 30 minutes from very early morning to late evening and they take 18 minutes. They leave you at Uppsala Central Station. Tickets are sold at Sky City, between terminal 4 and 5, where the way down to the platform is. When you go back to Arlanda you buy tickets at Uppsala Central Station, at UL's office in the new glass building or in the self service-machines. It's not possible to buy tickets on the train. Please note that you must keep the ticket and show it when you arrive at Arlanda. Important: some of the long distance trains between Uppsala and Stockholm (run by SJ) also stop at Arlanda Airport. Please note that you can not use the same type of ticket in the long distance trains as in the SL commuter trains.
A one-way train ticket between Arlanda and Uppsala costs approximately 205 SEK (January -18).
The public transport company Upplands Lokaltrafik (UL) also offers airport coach service between Uppsala and Arlanda on route number 801 all day and night. During day time the buses depart every 30 minutes. During night every hour.
They pick up passengers outside all terminals and use the motorway to Uppsala. The bus leaves you outside the Central Station in Uppsala and takes 45 minutes. The price for a one-way bus ticket is less than the train, about 150 SEK. Self-service ticket machines are available at the stops at terminal 2, 4 and 5. Only payment by card is accepted on board the coach. In Uppsala you can buy tickets at the Central Station, in UL's office in the main glass building. A taxi between Arlanda and Uppsala takes 25-30 minutes. Always ask for the price before you leave! Otherwise it could be very expensive. Most of the taxi companies however use fixed prices between Arlanda and Uppsala. For the moment (January -18) the price is about 520 SEK if you use Uppsala Taxi (the biggest taxi companiy in Uppsala), are not more than four and all go to the same place in Uppsala. You can book a taxi by phone before you leave home (se phone number below). Give your name, flight number, time and tell them from where you are coming, and they will wait for you when you arrive. (If your flight is delayed they get information about that, but if you miss the flight you must phone them and tell.)
From Uppsala Central Station to the Department of ALM
From the Central Station it is 15 to 20 minutes' walk to the department. Take Bangårdsgatan and Kungsängsgatan to Stora torget (the main square). Take Drottninggatan straight ahead towards the west, until you stand in front of the big Carolina Rediviva-building (the university library). Pass it to the right hand and cross the park behind. The campus is on the other side of the park.
You can take the bus from Stora torget (the main square) to the main university library building (Carolina Rediviva). But since it is a very short distance you don't save much time. The buses in Uppsala are very expensive and you could no longer buy tickets with cash directly on the bus. There are ticket machines in the main square.

Hotels in Uppsala
There are many hotels in Uppsala at different price levels.
